Heavy Precipitation Worsen Circumstances for Uprooted Palestinians in Gaza, UN Alert
Heavy storms over the past week have compounded the precarious situation of the vast number of evacuated civilians in the region, as reported by humanitarian agencies.
"Horrendous" Night Brings Grave Risks
A spokesman described the weather overnight as "horrendous", with precipitation so heavy that around 15cm (6in) of water gathered on the streets.
"The recent weather was truly horrendous for the families. The heavy rains were so intense... And the gales were so powerful," noted the spokesperson.
There is grave anxiety that children living in tents in soaked attire will contract hypothermia and additional illnesses.
Casualties and Widespread Damage
Health authorities have confirmed that one baby has passed away from the cold and at least 11 other people have lost their lives in building collapses triggered by the storms.
Additional accounts suggest a increased death toll. Officials stated that multiple residential buildings had collapsed completely and dozens had sustained partial collapse.

Relief Efforts Seen as Inadequate
Groups have increased deliveries of tarpaulins, blankets and clothes since the ceasefire commenced, but they have said there is remains not enough aid getting in.
"Officials are operating tirelessly to provide that relief and to distribute it, but the size of the necessities is so vast that we still have thousands of individuals and minors who are really suffering every night," warned one spokesperson.
Future Issues and Agreement Provisions
The next stage of the ceasefire includes arrangements for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with post-war governance, the withdrawal of personnel, and other conditions.
Aid organizations have underscored the need for "expanded and ongoing humanitarian assistance to respond to pressing and long-term requirements."
The conflict was sparked by an offensive in the autumn of 2023. Later actions have resulted in a substantial number of lives lost in the area, based on medical figures.
