Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in 17th position as his team followed a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he rotated at the fourth corner soon after starting.
The Japanese spun out over the track edges before rotating through the gravel trap, and was fortunate to escape with just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the main straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
