Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his position after another convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve games, marking the club's poorest run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got a lot of support from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”
He added, “I accept my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this match yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Response
Slot expressed regret over familiar shortcomings from his squad in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a spell such as this with performances like these.”
He concluded, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to get this team back to where it needs to be, prove again what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
