Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... For Now.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would turn into a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the hit program reaching its finale—and a second season greenlit and underway—the creative team opened up about the audience reaction and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

On the Tremendous Fan Response

It would be easy to get swayed by the rampant praise and fan theories regarding Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.

“It's like being constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's amazing, but I learn of it from others, and that's intentional. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Has Vince Gilligan Know the Ending of Pluribus?

So if the writers aren't taking cues by audience theories, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… in a way.

“We've developed some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” he states. “yet we stand ready to throw out a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, why not reference the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
